(399) Booze, Edo style


Whisky highball is my favorite casual drink in Japan: you take a big beer glass, fill it with ice, add a shot of whisky, fill the rest with soda water and top with the juice of a slice of lemon –whisky purists are allowed to cringe at the thought that occasionally the whisky used is a 25 y/o single malt. As for the use of an Utamaro beauty for advertising purposes it’s not that sacrilegious either: ukiyoe (浮世絵) was mass-produced pop art even back then.
