(626) August in Ueno #4

From the “Shitamachi Museum’s” (Shitamachi Fuzoku Shiriokan/下町風俗資料館) permanent collection” Japan’s first skyscraper, the “Ryounkaku” (凌雲閣) or “Asakusa Junikai” (浅草十二階), symbol of Tokyo’s modernization one of pre-war Asakusa’s greatest attractions and victim of the great earthquake of 1923. Next to it, a sign from the “Hanayashiki” (花やしき), Japan’s first amusement park which opened in 1853 and is still operating –also in Asakusa.
