(858) Local hero

Asakusa isn't lacking in the celebrities department but Shotaro Ikenami (池波 正太郎, 1923-1990) stands out; for many years he had been one of Japan's most popular authors. In the central library of Taito Ward there is a permanent exhibition of his writing desk, complete with many of his personal items.
